What is Hypnotherapy?
The term "hypnosis" comes from the Greek word hypnos, meaning "sleep." Hypnotherapists use exercises that bring about deep relaxation and an altered state of consciousness, where the person accesses his subconscious mind. Hence, the conscious and the subconscious mind come together to bring out the best in the individual.

Will my hypnotherapist have complete control over my mind and body?
No, a person in a hypnotic state is usually unresponsive to an idea or image, but this does not mean that a hypnotist can control the person's mind and free will. On the contrary, hypnosis can actually teach people how to master their own states of awareness. By doing so they can affect their own bodily functions and psychological responses.

What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

Whether you are consciously aware of it or not, you spend part of your day in hypnosis already. Do you find that your mind wanders off when you are trying to focus on something? Or perhaps you have been listening to music and found you have slipped into a daydream? Each of these is a form of trance which is exactly what hypnosis is. Hypnotic language is used to deepen the trance state we are all capable of entering and takes people deep into the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) state which is the same as the dreaming state. This is where the subconscious mind is at it’s most open where we can create change.  Because no two minds are the same, the experience of hypnosis differs for each individual, yet the description that comes up time and time again is that of a relaxed daydream.
Letting the mind do all the work, clients sit back and totally relax. Studies have shown that just 15 minutes of hypnosis is equal to between 1 and 4 hours sleep, which demonstrates how relaxing the experience is.
